Crystal Castles

December 5, 2010

Crystal Castles are an experimental, electronic duo from Toronto, Ontario, consisting of producer Ethan Kath and vocalist Alice Glass. Their music can best be described as chaotic bliss with heavy use of lo-fi elements and distorted sounds, that are dissected by piercing shrills and/or invigorating anthems. The release of their debut self titled album Crystal Castles in 2008, was rated number  39 in the top 50 albums of the decade by NME, and lauded for its ingenuity by pitchfork music. The duo set about a world tour following its successful release, and earned themselves a reputation for  insane live shows whereby vocalist Glass may or may not be kicked off the stage due to her on stage antics. This, coupled with arrogant, inappropriate comments within the press, had a lot of people wanting to see them fail on their next release in 2010. However, fortunately, or unfortunately, this was not the case and they came back even stronger with 2010’s release entitled err… Crystal Castles. Critics wrote of the bands well taken criticism on the previous album from which they had obviously built upon, and delivered one of the best albums of 2010. With support slots with Blur on their comeback tour and appearances at Reading, Glastonbury and 2011’s Big Day Out, you can be sure that Crystal Castles are packing some serious punch near you soon, something of which must not be missed.
